The essentials at a glance

Moderate cycling tour from Vevey to Lucerne through Switzerland's lake region. The route covers approximately 227 km over 5 days, passing through Gruyères cheese country, the Pays-d'Enhaut, Simmental valley, and along Lakes Thun and Brienz. Highlights include a boat ride from Spiez to Interlaken, traditional wooden chalets, and scenic alpine landscapes. Daily luggage transfers and digital navigation included.

Pure, idyllic alps

The Lakes-Route deserves its name, because many lakes touch the route from its beginning at Lake Geneva to its goal at Lake Lucerne. The Route leads through some outstanding touristic regions with great sounding names: Montreux, Gruyères, Gstaad, Interlaken and Lucerne… Whoever completes the Lakes-Route, has seen the most beautiful corners of Switzerland.

Itinerary

Luggage drop-off in Vevey. Cycle along quiet roads to the home of Switzerland's most popular cheese, Gruyère. The Gruyère region will enchant you with its mild to pungent symphony of green melancholy, cheerful cowbells and fascinating traditions.

Postcard country Switzerland: cheeseries, chalets with carved wooden facades, a fascinating tradition of paper cutting and snow-covered Alpine peaks. Away from the idyll, the Pays d’Enhaut and the Saaneneland are a magnificent landscape, animated by the haze of celebrity and happy mountain goers.

In Simmental, you will be amazed by the artistically decorated wooden houses and will never get tired of watching the rubber dinghy and canoe enthusiasts dancing on the waves of the popular Simme river. Another water sports paradise awaits you in Spiez on the picturesque Lake Thun.

The boat takes you from Spiez to Interlaken. On the shores of Lake Brienz, the route climbs steeply in places up to Meiringen and then continues by train over the Brünig Pass. You reach the canton of Obwalden, a charming pre-Alpine landscape with scattered settlements, sparkling lakes and long traditions.

As soon as you get a glimpse of the Lake of Lucerne, the Pilatus is in your path. Bay after bay right to Lucerne, a fixed point for every tourist. After arriving in Lucerne, luggage pick-up and individual departure.

Itinerary

Luggage drop-off in Vevey. Quiet roads lead you to the source of the most popular cheese of Switzerland: the Gruyère, which shares its name with the region. A recent symphony of green melancholy, cowbells and customs.

Postcard country Switzerland: cheeseries, chalets, snowy mountains, cable cars, hotel scent and papercutting. Away from the idyll, the Pays d’Enhaut and the Saaneneland are a magnificent landscape, animated by the haze of celebrity and happy mountain goers.

The artfully decorated wooden houses of the Simmental are among the most beautiful in Europe. The Simme remains a wild river that demands a lot from dinghy riders. On to Spiez, a water sports paradies on the cheerful lake Thun.

A boat ride from Spiez to Interlaken in the morning. On the shore of Lake Brienz there is a steep ascent to Meiringen to be completed where you can take the train across the Brünigpass. You reach Obwalden: a small Canton, a big Valley, a pre-alpine landscape with scattered villages, flat lakes and long traditions.

As soon as you get a glimpse of the Lake of Lucerne, the Pilatus is in your path. Bay after bay right to Lucerne, a fixed point for every tourist. After arriving in Lucerne, luggage pick-up and individual departure.

Tour character

The route is naturally flat along the many lakes - but there are smaller and larger inclines to overcome between the bodies of water: Less sporty cyclists are therefore advised to use an electric bike, which is particularly suitable for this route. Sporty cyclists tackle the stages on touring bikes and shorten the route by public transport if necessary.
