If the good William Tell had had more time, he would have chosen this route through Central Switzerland. The Tell-Trail leads you on spectacular high-altitude paths, into small side valleys and along dreamy rippling rivers. You will discover the most famous vantage points and the most beautiful places in Central Switzerland.
You hike in a wide arc from Luzern to the Mount Pilatus and finish the tour after a visit to Engelberg and Melchsee-Frutt on the Brienzer Rothorn. The hikes are demanding and the views are dazzling: If it weren't for the landvogt Gessler, Wilhelm and Walter would have loved to take on this tour.
Bus ride to Kriens and an idyllic hike through the Chrienser Hohwald. The paths become rougher from Fräkmünt onwards. You circle the Klimsenhorn and hike on countless serpentine turns up to Pilatus.
The Cabrio-Bahn takes you up to the top of the Stanserhorn and offers you a panoramic view of the mountains of Central Switzerland. But soon it will be time to turn your back on Pilatus and Lake Lucerne, because today's stage is demanding. You follow the Nidwaldner Höhweg to the Storeggpass and then descend to the Eggen cable car station. Short hike to Grafenort and by train to Engelberg.
From Engelberg, the route is steeply uphill. A first highlight is the picturesque Trüebsee lake. Stop here for a short rest, because the following ascent to the Jochpass is not entirely easy either. At the top, the idyllic Engstlensee lake awaits you. A final crossing past the Tannensee lake brings you to Melchsee-Frutt. Optional short-cut: cable car ride to Trüebsee or up to the Jochpass.
The tour takes you past the Hochstollen and along rocky paths to the Seefeldsee. The Tell Trail leads you through the marshy nature reserve of Sachsler Seefeld to the center of Switzerland. The night on the Älggialp is something very special.
Countless Alps accompany you today on your way down to the valley. From the marshy plateau of Älggialp you hike through small forests towards Brünigpass. The turquoise-blue water of the Lungernsee greets you from afar, and you reach the lake after a strenuous descent along narrow paths.
A highlight awaits you at the end of your tour. You take the cable car up to Turren and hike from there via Rückenegg and Zwischenegg to the Brienzer Rothorn. An impressive panoramic view of the Bernese Oberland and Lake Brienz is spread out before you. A cable car ride to Schönenboden and a leisurely hike to Sörenberg bring your days along the Tell Trail to an end.
