Itinerary
Arrival to Saig
From your hotel you descend through a quiet forest towards the famous lake Titisee. You will walk a trail next to the shore and then continue through a nature reserve towards Bärental. Taste some local liquor in the “Schnapsmuseum” and of course the famous Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. Afterwards you will have to conquer a step ascent to reach the small pond Mathisleweiher – a dreamy landscape midst of the forest awaits here. From here nice walking trails lead the way to the peaceful village of Hinterzarten.
Scenic trails take you up to a vantage point. On our way to the lake Feldsee you will pass through several farms where specialities are served. Take your time for a short break and enjoy the local dishes. The lake sparkles in dark blue and from here a narrow trail leads towards the ski-resort on Feldberg. You can choose whether you want to walk to the Bismarck monument or on easy paths to your accommodation. You will spend the night either closs to the top of the pass or close to the peak in a mountain inn.
Today you will climb the Feldberg. It is a steep ascend to the mountain top but the panorama from the peak is going to reward you for your efforts. From here you will follow the long distance hike “Westweg” along the mountain ridge. The trail descends through bald mountain ranges and quiet forests. Numerous mountain inns and rest areas lie along your way to Todtnauberg.
The trail leads next to numerous waterfalls with the “Todtnauer Wasserfall” as a highlight. Masses of water plunge almost 100 metres over the rocks. From Todtnau you take the chairlift up to “Hasenhorn”. A quick sidestep brings you to the vantage point on the top of the hill before you continue past mountain pastures and grazing cows back down into the valley. Mountain streams bubble next to you and lead you towards the high valley of Bernau.
You walk up to the vantage point “Scheibenfelsen” and continue on a panorama trail before you descend towards the village of Menzenschwand. A small chapel lies on the wayside. From here you ascend through a quiet forest. Soon after noon you will reach lake Schluchsee, where you walk on the dam before reaching the eponymous village on the shore of the lake.
At the end of your week, you ascend to yet another vantage tower where you can make out almost every trail you’ve walked during the past days. Quiet forest trails lead you down into the valley towards the village of Lenzkirch. Gather strength during one last break before you ascend over blooming mountain meadows to reach your accommodation in the small settlement of Saig.

Tour character
Moderate hikes with an average duration of approximately 4 – 6 hours per day. Most of the time you will walk on good hiking and forest trails. Some sections might be steep or slippery. For that you should bring surefootedness. For the ups and downs in the Black Forest, a good level of fitness is required.
