The Rhone-Route connects – between Brig and Lausanne – two completely different types of landscapes: In Brig, the Rhone valley widens. Nowhere in Switzerland, is there more sunshine than here in the Wallis.
A change of scenery in Villeneuve. The wide, light flooded area of the Lake of Geneva on one side, the wine hills with sounding names on the other side of the route accompany the cyclist on his way towards the goal of Lausanne. The Rhone-Route offers scenic and cultural variety and the flat route profile makes it perfect for casual cyclists aswell.
You leave the Stockalper Palace behind you and drive through small villages and settlements. Visible from afar is the castle church of Raron, towering high above the valley. The destination of today's ride is the small village of Susten, which is located at the gates of the Pfynwald Nature Park.
In the meantime, the river has changed its name: as soon as you reach the Lower Valais at Sierre, you no longer speak of the Rotten - you now also officially follow the Rhone. The castles of Tourbillon and Valeria await you at the end of today's ride. Treat yourself to a glass of wine in the bilingual cantonal capital of Sion!
The capital city Sion shows its historical castles, churches and mansions. The lower Rhone-Valley is dominated by the high-alpine scenery of the Dents du Midi. A world of fertile fruit orchards and vineyards.
From the heights, a round tower guards Martigny on its bend in the Rhone at the valley’s narrowest point. St-Maurice guards golden church treasures. High mountains and lowlands, Lac Léman hidden behind reeds and defiant Chillon Castles on the water.
Lac Léman, a big silver lake surrounded by snowy summits and vineyards, e.g. UNESCO World Heritage Lavaux. Along the shores: Vevey, Montreux, and the metropolis of Lausanne, "Olympia-City" and the centre of life of the people of Vaud.

Sehr schöne Route, mit Ausnahme der verkehrsreichen Strassen, die man besser über die Rebberge umfährt, mit etwas mehr Anstrengung, dafür mit einer schönen Aussicht.
