If you want to travel quickly from Olten to Geneva, travel through the midlands. If you have time, choose the route along the Jura South Foot. Beautiful old towns lie along the wide arc of the Jura through Switzerland, and castles and palaces watch over the wide countryside occasionally. From Olten you roll through the hilly foothills of the Jura onto the land of the Three Lakes with a view of the Aare.
Carrot fields, farmland and vineyards dominate the picture here, before the snow-covered peaks of the Mont Blanc massif come into view from Yverdon-les-Bains. The small villages along the way, not far from the big metropolis, seem to be from another time and inspire dreams. The clocks really do tick a bit slower along the Jura South Foot, but who cares if you're not in a hurry?
Bielersee wine abounds on its northern shores, the Petersinsel beckons you to stop and relax, the Zihlkanal leads to Lac de Neuchâtel. After charming Neuchâtel, the scene is interlaced with vineyards, wide fields, narrow wine villages and castles.
After the charming town of Neuchâtel, vineyards, wide fields, narrow wine-growing villages, castles and châteaux alternate with noisy motorway landscapes and quiet shorelines where the lake invites you to bathe.
From Yverdon through the Plaine de l’Orbe. Roman mosaics on the slopes, the Romanesque abbey church in Romainmôtier is serene. Your calf muscles are on fire but lovely deciduous forests soothe your soul.
The isolated terrace above Lac Léman boasts an impressive panorama with the mighty snow-covered Mont Blanc. The natural idyll of Marais de la Versoix lies hidden, before you suddenly arrive in cosmopolitan Genève.
