A wonderful conclusion

This Alpine mountain bike trail is the premier route in SwitzerlandMobility’s network. It is stunning, yet challenging and demanding. The final stages lead from the Bernese Oberland to the Saanenland. Magnificent farmhouses in Zweisimmen, followed by flowing green hills and majestic mountains. The wooden chalets of Gstaad and Saanen alternate with the stone buildings of Château-d’Oex.

Take a moment to catch your breath and then it’s time for the final spurt. After a short detour to the Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut Nature Park, a visit to Les Diablerets in western Switzerland follows. Even as this tour draws to a close, the jagged mountains, lush green meadows and quick descents come thick and fast.

Itinerary

After you’ve dropped your luggage off in Frutigen, you take the bus to Adelboden. Then, it’s an easy stage from the Engstligen into the Simmen Valley. A pleasant ascent to the Hahnenmoos Pass with a magnificent mountain panorama, a long downhill run to Zweisimmen – first steeply down into the valley basin to Lenk, then along the Simme, wonderful for beginners and families.

Today features a leisurely start, then an enjoyable ride from Rougemont through meadows, forests and remote valley gorges, dominated by the majestic ridges of the Vaud Alps. Eventually, you’ll come across an enchanting clearing with moorland meadow – if you’re ever going to meet a unicorn, it’ll probably be here!

This stage begins with a steep ascent to the Col des Mosses pass, followed by picturesque meadow trails and mountain paths high above the valleys to Les Mosses. From here, route no. 68 continues to the pretty village of Les Diablerets at the foot of the rocky massif of the same name.

The route to Lac des Chavonnes, a deep-blue mountain lake, is richly diverse and offers spectacular views today. The highest point of the route, with its spectacular panorama, is located high above Villars. Once there, a train journey takes you down into the Rhône Valley. After arrival in Bex train journey to Aigle. – it’s now time to collect your luggage and depart.

Tour Character

This is a relatively easy conclusion to the Alpine Bike Trail. The last two stages lead down into the Rhône Valley along Route 68. Each stage includes longer sections that require a good level of fitness. Technically, there are no particularly difficult passages.
