The essentials at a glance

Self-guided mountain bike tour through the Bernese Oberland from Andermatt to Adelboden. Moderate difficulty with daily distances of 37-63 km. Highlights include the Sustenpass, Grosse Scheidegg with views of the Wetterhorn, descent to Grindelwald with glacier panoramas, and riding beneath the Eiger north face to Kleine Scheidegg. The tour features alpine trails, spectacular mountain scenery including Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and the mystical Bunderle rock basin with waterfalls.

Swiss bike pleasures

The Bernese Oberland is simply beautiful. But also quite steep! As the first test on this tour along the Alpine Bike you will overcome the Susten Pass. Here, historic paths blend harmoniously into the mountain landscape.

After a short stop in the Haslital, the route leads up to the Grosse Scheidegg. The north face of the Eiger and the peaks of the Mönch and Jungfrau lie before you as if painted. In addition to this panorama, however, the jagged ascents and swift descents take your breath away.

Itinerary

Luggage drop-off in Andermatt. What starts sweetly in the Meiental becomes more alpine, rough and difficult with increasing altitude: If you want to avoid pushing and carrying on the uppermost part to the Sustenpass, it is better to choose the pass road. Downhill into the Gadmental with crisp trail sections.

Easy, long ascent through the Reichenbach Valley to Grosse Scheidegg, at the foot of the imposing Wetterhorn. In wide loops breathtaking descent to Grindelwald with spectacular views of the nearby glaciers and snow peaks.

The ascent at the foot of the Eiger north face to Kleine Scheidegg is already impressive. The absolute highlight is the descent to Lauterbrunnen in the majestic neighborhood of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – simply breathtaking.

Tour with trail highlight into the remote Kiental. The strenuous ascent on asphalt from Frutigen is rewarded with a view over the Engstligental and a loop to the imposing, mystical Bunderle rock basin (“Felskessel Bunderle”) with thundering waterfalls. Individual departure from Adelboden.

Tour character

One of the best trips for bikers in Switzerland. Technically a rather easy tour. For the long stages and many meters of altitude, however, a good condition is necessary.
