Hiking has a long tradition in France
The famous Grand Randonnés, as the long-distance hiking trails are called, and the historic pilgrim paths with connections to the surrounding countries have always been popular.
Between the Mediterranean and the English Channel, between the Atlantic coast and Lake Geneva, there is hardly a region in France that has not been discovered by hikers. Alsace, the Périgord, Normandy, Corsica, and Provence are all wonderful hiking destinations that remain relatively undiscovered and can still be considered hidden gems.
