The essentials at a glance

Mountain bike tour through the Valais Alps from Brig to Sierre. Moderate difficulty with daily distances of 25-41 km including singletrails. Cable car rides to high alpine terrain, spectacular descents through Lötschental valley, past Lac de Moiry reservoir to mountain villages like Grimentz. Includes daily luggage transfers, breakfast, and SwitzerlandMobility-Plus subscription.

Lötschental & Val d'Anniviers

A stone's throw from the bustling centre of the canton of Valais, the largely unspoilt Lötschental awaits you. Here you fight your way up along narrow roads, but the effort is well worth it, because once you reach the top, fantastic panoramas await you. The ride back to civilisation takes you first along lonely trails before you return through vineyards to lively Sierre.

Too much hustle and bustle? Then the lonely Val d'Anniviers is just right. To get in the mood, a trail along the valley flank, as the main course a detour to the barrier lake Lac de Moiry and a beautiful descent down to Grimentz. Finally, the tour will end in Sierre. The two valleys will inspire you!

Itinerary

Day
1

Arrival to Brig

You leave the Stockalper Palace behind you and pass through small villages and settlements. The castle church of Raron, which towers high above the valley, can be seen from afar. From Gampel-Steg, you take the bus to Wiler in the Lötschental.

If you want to take it easy, take the cable car up to Lauchernalp. If you have enough strength in your legs, you can climb up an unmade winding road to Hockenalp.

The descent leads in constant ups and downs with magnificent views of the snow-covered Valais peaks out of the Lötschental. From Alp Meiggu, the descent begins leading you with occasional counter ascents up to small hamlets, down into the Rhone Valley. From Sierre, bus ride to St-Luc.

Take the funicular up to Tignousa. From here, the road leads high above the Val d'Anniviers to Zinal. You will encounter a real highlight at the end of the tour. The cable car takes you up to almost 2'700 metres to Sorebois and from here it's all downhill. Past the barrier lake Lac de Moiry to the small mountain village Grimentz. From here bus to Sierre, luggage retrieval and departure.

Tour character

Many metres in altitude are conquered by cable car but there are always challenging climbs. Some of the descents are long, on some days there are over 1'000 metres of descent at a time. Good basic fitness is required. Trail-experience is recommended for this trip.
