The Via Francigena follows in the footsteps of Archbishop Sigerich, who made the march on foot several times from Canterbury to Rome on foot several times. The most arduous stages took him over the Alps. The Alps Mule tracks wind their way up into the mountains to Martigny and lead you to the Great St. Bernard and the Italian border. St. Bernard and the Italian border. On the descent, you follow in the footsteps of the Romans along old irrigation channels to the famous town of Aosta.
Arrival and luggage drop-off in Yverdon-les-Bains. You hike down to the Saut du Day waterfall and follow the course of the Orbe River. The hike takes you through a nature reserve to the village of Les Clées and on to the Gorge de l'Orbe. At the end of the stage, you reach the small town of Orbe - known for its Roman mosaics.
After Orbe, the ViaFrancigena reaches the medieval town of Romainmôtier with its Clunysian abbey. Finally, one reaches the middle of the world, where part of the river Nozon flows to the Mediterranean Sea and the other part to the North Sea.
French poet Gilles described the beauty of the Venoge, the river that this stage follows from Cossonay to Saint-Sulpice, sometimes high up, sometimes beside the water. The pilgrims’ path finally reaches Lac Léman and continues on via the Roman town of Vidy to Lausanne.
From the quay in Ouchy, the ViaFrancigena runs along the Lac Léman shores to Vilette. It then winds through the Lavaux terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage. Fantastic views over Lac Léman.
From Vevey, the trail follows the lake to Villeneuve. On the way, you can visit the games museum in the Tour-de-Peilz castle or the famous Chillon castle before reaching the Chablais wine region.

Arrival/Departure:
Arrival by public transport to Yverdon-les-Bains. Drop off your luggage at the luggage counter by 10:00 a.m. at the latest.
Departure by public transport from Aigle. Suitcases will be returned to the luggage counter by 05:00 p.m. at the latest.
Arrival by train: Leave the car at home! For every bike, biking or hiking tour in Switzerland, you will receive an SBB coupon per participant, which you can use to deduct CHF 10 from the ticket price for traveling by train. The reduction can be obtained in the SBB online store or in the SBB app.
On many trips, we use the luggage counters at the stations at the beginning and at the end to hand over the suitcases. You can conveniently combine this right away when you arrive by train. If you are a GA owner, you can provide this information when booking. We will credit you the amount on the invoice. If you don't need the coupon for the trip itself, you can use it during the year. Unfortunately, a retroactive refund is not possible for administrative reasons.
