The essentials at a glance

This moderate 4-day mountain bike tour traverses central Switzerland from Brunnen to Thun. The route covers approximately 160 km through the cantons of Schwyz, Nidwald, Obwald, and Bern, featuring daily climbs between 850-1,450m. Highlights include a boat crossing from Gersau to Beckenried, the scenic Glaubenbielenpass at over 1,600m altitude, and panoramic views of Lake Sarnen and Lake Thun with the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau massif.

From Lake Lucerne to Lake Thun

You start your tour with a panoramic ride over the ridge of the Rigi. A short breather at Lake Sarnen and then a steep stretch up to Sörenberg. Finally, roll relaxed through the moorland of Habkern. The snow-covered peaks of the Bernese Oberland provide a great finale to this tour.

Itinerary

Luggage drop-off in Brunnen. This stage takes you through the original cantons of Schwyz, Nidwalden and Obwalden. After a steep ascent and a scenic descent, you take the ferry from Gersau to Beckenried and then continue in the direction of Sarnen past picturesque farmhouses.

The long ascent on the "Panoramastrasse" to the Glaubenbielenpass at over 1,600 meters above sea level compensates with the fantastic view over Lake Sarnen. At the foot of the Brienzer Rothorn, the stage ends in the tourist resort of Sörenberg.

The region of Sörenberg is a high moor landscape with fir forests. The steep gravel roads and small alpine roads lead to the next region, the Bernese Oberland.

In constant ascents and descents, the route continues high above Lake Thun in a westerly direction. Soon the imposing massif of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau appears. Well-kept houses, snowy mountains and the lake landscape create a classic photo scene for Switzerland. After arrival in Thun departure.

Arrival/Departure:

  • Arrival by public transport to Brunnen. For direct arrival: Luggage drop-off by 10:00 a.m. at the latest.
  • Departure by public transport from Thun. For direct departure: your luggage will be delivered to the luggage counter by 5:00 p.m. at the latest.

Arrival by train

Leave the car at home! For every bike, biking or hiking tour in Switzerland, you will receive an SBB coupon per participant, which you can use to deduct CHF 10.- from the ticket price for traveling by train. The reduction can be obtained in the SBB online store or in the SBB app.

On many trips, we use the luggage counters at the stations at the beginning and at the end to hand over the suitcases. You can conveniently combine this right away when you arrive by train. If you are a GA owner, you can provide this information when booking. We will credit you the amount on the invoice. If you don't need the coupon for the trip itself, you can use it during the year. Unfortunately, a retroactive refund is not possible for administrative reasons.

We reduce the amount of printed documents. You will receive instructions to help you find your way around using the Eurotrek Travel Guide App. We provide you with further information online.

In advance you will receive a small package of documents with the following contents:

  • Your travel program
  • Luggage tags
  • Description of how to use the app
  • Any vouchers
     

The Eurotrek Travel Guide App will help you find your way around. In addition to your digital map, you will find further information about your booked trip. The app is also available offline, simply download the trip in advance.
