Reiseverlauf
After you’ve dropped your luggage off in Lucerne, this stage leads across the Horw peninsula to the foot of Mount Pilatus. Then you’ll cross the Rengg Pass, which was the only land connection to Obwalden until the Brünigstrasse was built in the 1860s.

A steep ascent to the Bürgenstock follows. Then, you’ll walk down to Kehrsiten on the shores of Lake Lucerne. If you prefer, you can also shorten this route by taking the Bürgenstock funicular.
The funicular takes you back up to Bürgenstock today. When you get to the top, you can hike along the century-old rocky path with the lake below you and surrounded by stunning panoramic views of the Alps. You continue with a ride on the unique Hammetschwand lift, past the St. Jost pilgrimage site to the shores of Ennetbürgen, Buochs and Beckenried.
You pass through the cool gorge to Lake Uri today, following the lakeside road to Risleten and climbing up through the attractive Risleten gorge. You then traverse the Stützberg on the historic path to Volligen and, when you arrive at the Rütli, you’ll be greeted by spectacular views of Lake Uri below.
Today’s stage starts with a boat ride to takes you from Brunnen, via Waldstätterquai and Auslandschweizerplatz, to Seestrasse, and then on to Brünischart. This is where the mountain trail begins, winding its way through Mediterranean-style forest vegetation with magnificent panoramic views.
Today’s stage take you past orchards as you head towards Oberwilen and then cross the narrow molasse folds with ladders, which used to be the only way to reach Weggis. The route continues through the Chestenenweid nature reserve, via Weggis, Hertenstein and Haldihof, and on to Küssnacht.
A scenic walk with views of the Alps today – from Küssnacht through the nature reserves in Wagenmoos, along the lake shore at Meggen and Meggehorn castle. You’ll approach the city of Lucerne and enter via the 19th-century tourist avenue, its quay with sweeping views of the Alps. When you arrive in Lucerne, it’s time to collect your luggage and depart.
Tour character
The route around Lake Lucerne is steep in places. Good basic fitness is necessary for the climbs and some of the longer stages. Sure-footedness is advisable for the tour over the Rengg Pass and on the Bürgenstock. Some days include sections on paved roads.
