Itinerary

Today the tour leads along the Aare to Solothurn, the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland.

Continue to Nidau near Biel. Situated at the foot of the Jura Mountains, Biel is also known as the largest bilingual city in Switzerland and the gateway to the Three Lakes Country.

Continue through the charming Seeland. The small medieval town of Murten on the south-eastern shore of the lake of the same name has preserved its original face with its picturesque old town streets and cosy arcades (it is worth deviating slightly from the Mitteland route on regional routes to Murten, Avenches and Payerne).

From medieval Murten to the small town of Avenches. It lies in the expanse of the Broye plain, on a hill between Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Murten, in the canton of Vaud near the border with Fribourg.

The small town Avenches lies in the wide Broye Plain between Lake Neuchâtel and Murten in the canton of Vaud near the border to the canton of Fribourg. This former capital of Roman Helvetia has a rich and valuable heritage dating back to Roman times.

Now you'll return to Lake Neuchatel. There you will hear chirping in the reeds and waves lapping at the gentle shore, Jura is shimmering in the distance. Over 100 species of birds breed in the Grande Cariçaie, the 40-km-long marsh and reed belt along the southern shores of the lake.

Flat and fertile: Plaine de l’Orbe, framed by Roman mosaics and the rolling hills of Vaud. In Mormont, the watershed of the Rhone and Rhine. Change of scene from the wild waters of the Venoge to the small silver «sea» of Lac Léman.

Tour character

The route is mostly flat and leads through the Swiss mittelland. It is perfect for family bike tours with children. Mostly car-free and on natural field and forest paths.
