Along the largest Swiss River

A classic in the bike country Switzerland: While riding along the Aare, get to know a piece of Switzerland, that kept the charm of the province, the peasantry the untainted Nater to this day: Visit our country and its inhabitants “through the back door” so to speak – not through the front door with all the touristy stereotypes.

The deep Brienzersee, clear, quiet and sombre. The Thunersee, shallower, open and lively. In the middle, Interlaken, a trendy tourist centre, dominated by those icy icons, the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau. Picture-postcard perfect, get ready to rub your eyes! From Interlaken by boat to Spiez.

approx. 50 km

After Thun, the gateway to the Oberland, the wide Aaretal: large villages, industry, open fields and a powerful river in lush water meadows. Enter the capital city of Bern, UNESCO World Heritage with arcades teeming with shoppers. Enter the capital city of Bern, UNESCO World Heritage.

Perfect trio at Wohlensee: bird paradise, power station and nuclear reactor. Follow the Aare into Seeland, a giant vegetable garden thanks to the Hagneckkanal.

Behind reeds and woodland, the Bielersee hints at the happy hustle and bustle in bilingual Biel-Bienne.

approx. 50 km

«Child» of the Jura waters correction: the Nidau-Büren canal and the Häftli loop. The Witi, dry, where hares and storks gather. Nearby, the sluggish meandering Aare; in the distance, the towers of St. Ursen Cathedral announce the baroque town of Solothurn.

approx. 30 km

The so-called "ambassadors city" Solothurn is considered to be the most beautiful Baroque city of Switzerland, where Italian Grandezza mixes with French charme and Swiss groundedness.

From here, follow the Aare – Aarau, capitol of the Canton Aargau in the Swiss Mittelland, is located at the river Aare where city and Canton get their name from.

approx. 60 km

A perfectly signposted, mostly flat cycle route, predominantly on field and forest trails far away from motiorized traffic. Some parts left natural, but most of the tour is done on asphalt roads.

On the first stage there are some passages where you have to push your bike and there are some steep parts as well.
